This Sunday as we continue to journey to Jerusalem we will be looking at what influences us beyond temptation but affects how we see things. I would encourage people to think about the way we perceive the world. There is a term that is called ethnocentric which means that we are not unbiased in the way we think and the way we see the world around us. We are influenced by our social status, our family of origin, and our cultural expectations. In fact quantum physics states that even in our observation of experiments has a subtle influence on the results.
The reflection that I would encourage you to do prior to Sunday would be to think of the influences that have shaped who you are. How would that influence the way you see God's world? For instance the scriptures that we will be using come from 1 Samuel 16:1-13 and John 9:1-7. Read these scriptures and notice how cultural expectations influence what others perceive in their lives.
